doors and trim

most of the doors have been hung. and they look supah. and the trim, which was chris' choice. i actually like it. its very simple. but different. so if you don't dig it, tough. :)

this is the door going into bo's room. of course it is, can't you see the pink glare staring out at you from around the corners?

guest room closet doors. dang they are big. but incidentally, did you know that half a door costs more than a door and a half? me neitha. some things you find out the hard way.

doors in the master bedroom which lead to the closet and bathroom. they will be stained. the whitish/gray/tan yuck color doors will be painted. the same color as the trim. which is a white. chantilly lace to be exact. i know you may have been worried.

there are actually stairs to get into the house now! i thought i had taken some pictures. but when i downloaded them, i realized that bo took all the pictures at the jobsite yesterday. so theres a lot of sky, ground, her shoes. my rear. etc. not really newsworthy.

and in other news, i spent about 2 hours staring at the fireplace yesterday. which is incorrect. some people are trying to tell me "nope its correct". i am sorry. that is incorrect. you may remember it looks like this:

there are a lot of things i deem wrong with this fireplace. but the most important one is that its not actually IN the room. its more like hanging outside. which presents a problem when you are going to try to put built in bookcases on either side. the mathematical equations i have been through on this are varied and many. needless to say, it needs some help. stay tuned to see if i run the brick mason off or not. if you tell me, that you want me to pay you, to clean up your mess. and you get your mess on some things that we didn't use, and then i can't return them. then i am not highly inclined to retain your services further.

pink.

when we started this house house saga. bo kept telling me that her room should be pink, red and purple. the pink i am cool with. the purple and red i have sort of switched out for turquoise (of course). which she doesn't really know yet, but probably has clue since i bought some turquoise lamps in front of her, for her room. and she informed me she didn't like them. anywhoo.. when i said the painters were coming she said "did you tell them i wanted my room pink?" to which i replied, "yes i did". she then said "no look at me, did you say BO WANTS HER ROOM PINK! and point your finger at them fiercely while you said it?" to which i of course replied "yes". so did i tell them or not?

bo's room. (reminder, the painters are NOT done yet. so this is a tad brighter *we hope* than the final result). she gave her approval by dancing a little jig out in the middle of it.

the gray guest room. its kinda hard to see here. but its gray. trust. and see how nice it goes with the turquoise?

another angle. it will, of course, be a tad darker in the end.

and finally our bedroom. which should be gray blue. not blue gray. but i am not convinced they actually painted it a different color than the living room. stay tuned for developments in that area. it still looks quite nice with the turquoise.

so see, everything isn't blue, chris. duh. i won't even show you the van duesen blue. the half tint of that reminds me of a circa 1980's country kitchen (also known as chris' kitchen before i moved in). and is better left until the final coat is on.

i will show you a sweet little bunny. we see them everytime we go down our driveway. even with all the traffic back and forth. he jumped JUST as i took the pick. he had been just looking at us, like please go on. geez.

some stairs? and paint!

i don't know if i have mentioned this before or not, but there are no steps to get into the house. that's right. nothing except a ladder i "acquired" from a neighbor. but as of last week there's a deck. which i am not sure what this has to do with actual steps, but its closer. fast eddie (bless his heart again) PROMISES i will have steps this week. we shall see.

and while eddie was there. he installed one of my replacement windows. the one on the right. the one on the left is still not big enough! so it will be replaced as soon as the replacement arrives. i do not like having to say replace, and replacement, etc. so many times in reference to a new house. also the replacement window that has been installed opens out the wrong way, thanks supplier guy for doing a great job blocking my pond views when the windows are open. good job. and while i am on that topic, i have switched suppliers in the middle of the house. so just to get that out there. moving along...

the first coat of paint is down/up. whatever the correct painter term is. its on the wall. this is the living room. its a light blue gray. (tomorrow you will see the master bedroom, which is a light gray blue. see there's a difference). also, these colors are a 1/2 tint. which i am to understand is not totally indicative of the final color. (this isn't how the guy said it, i dressed it up some). i think what he meant was, if you don't like it now, this ain't how its gonna look when i'm done. so basically, keep your mouth shut until i say i'm done. i'm cool with that.

from the dining room, through the kitchen. and far far off, you can see my turquoise foyer. ahhh. turquoise. you are so lovely. and way brighter than i had envisioned in my mind. ok, he's not done yet. oh and see the doors. maybe they will be up today.

previously mentioned turquoise foyer. which chris says the whole house is blue. no its not. its blue gray, gray blue and turquoise. with some pink, white, gray and van duesen blue thrown in. (you can see these tomorrow).get it together. much to chris' chagrin, he didn't edit the paint colors prior to my handing them over to the painters. you live. you learn.

and finally the sitting room upstairs. also turquoise. if i have lost any of you on these paint colors. stick with me. i will pull it all out. i promise.

the garage, some paint and elvis

i know you are all excited about the elvis part. but we will save it for last.

the garage is now mostly finished on the inside. i am 99.9% sure its now chris' favorite room. due to all the wood. oh and look, another window! the joy. i love having extra windows laying all around. it seems so safe, economical and it's always nice to let the rain blow into a big gaping hole in your home.

and what will probably be my favorite room one day. the art studio. and bo with her gardening hat on.

the big gaping hole. at this point, this room is sheetrocked and a level coat of paint has been applied. by this weekend a primer coat of the actual color should be on it. if there isn't a also a window in that hole by tomorrow (it is supposed to rain some this weekend), eddie may make it to the list. so far he is the only person out there NOT on my list. are you reading this eddie? ok probably not.

and speaking of paint. i had a nice conversation with my painter. i say nice. i'm sure he was thinking "this girl is not right". he kept nodding and saying, oh yea that will be fine. no problem. all the while trying to back out of the door i am sure, to run away from the multiple colors i have picked. (as an aside, i picked a gray for the gaping hole guest room. which the painter seems excited over, he said OH! I've always wanted to paint a room gray and nobody ever picks it. leave it to me).

so i know you have all been just waiting to see what color i have picked for

the elvis bathroom and i too have fretted over this. well it has been decided.

this little room...
is getting a whole lot of this... van duesen blue. i have no clue who van duesen is, but i like him.
so the walls, and the ceiling. all this lovely blue. the painter actually said "yea, that will work". bless his heart. (image via realsimple.com) i feel its glamorous enough for elvis. yet, the gallery wall its really going to pop on it. (are you backing out the door with the painter at this point?)

men on stilts and a fairy

we have both of these and more down at the house!

little miss fairy was in a big hurry to get over to the house, with her wings on of course.

she had heard through the grapevine that there were men, on stilts! and they didn't disappoint....

i guess you need those to do this.

and as an added bonus, she got to jump rope with some new friends. i use the term jump rope loosely because it was really just a strip of paper off the end of the sheetrock. the littlest one was looking at the older two, like y'all have lost your mind. and then proceeded to bounce off the end of some lumber, like she was going to catapult herself. catapults, as you know, are big time at our house.

and in other news. on saturday i pretended that i drive a truck, and not an suv. and went to pick up a crate of tile in it. a very heavy crate of tile. all the stuff laying on top of the tile isn't just junk, well i mean it IS technically junk, but it was serving to hold all those tile in place for the 45 minute ride home. i always end up looking like a clampett on my house buying trips...

more sheetrock and a project

so they just about wrapped up the sheet rock. did i mention this is like the unfriendliest bunch of folks ever? i walk in, so hello. they say "hey". then i go on so as not to bother them. and they still don't even talk to one another. i can be upstairs away from them, its like dead silence. creeps me out. and there are about 6 of them there. outside, there is one single cab truck. which kicked off the following conversation:

bo: how did all those men get here?
me: in that truck.
bo: no they didn't. that truck don't even have a backseat. they don't fit in there"
me: good point.

so its a mystery how they all arrive, but she is worried about it. i told her maybe somebody dropped them off and picked them up later. but she is not convinced that happens to anybody but little kids. so she isn't buying that theory.

so our bedroom....

the kitchen area....

from the side door into the foyer...

and finally. what i managed to do with my weekends, instead of wash clothes, cook supper, etc. i took this little wooden desk and i am going to use it for a vanity table for bo's room. it was just brown. i painted a couple of coats of white paint. then taped off this little chevron pattern and painted.

and now it looks like this. it still needs some polyurethane on the top. but its pretty cute. even chris liked it, which says a lot.

sheet yea!

we have sheet rock!

this one kinda slipped up on me. sheet rock arrived a day early. sheetrockers then also arrived a day early. all of this goes against everything the construction industry stands for. the sheetrockers play spanish rap music, which goes against everything i stand for. but they work until dark, so i will let it slide.

the guest bedroom. notice the ceiling. which has caused me problems with everybody involved in this job. i. do. not. care. period. i like it. a lots.

bo's bedroom. did you know, in an emergency situation. you would not be able to get out of these windows? according to our building code, you can't anyway. so our building code is geared towards those of you who may happen to be 7 foot tall or more. as a result, this window will need to find a new home. so those of you who need a huge window, let me know. i have 2.

bo's playroom. and her playing in it.
the living room wall. and a dude, who i am 99% sure didn't really want to be documented.

have a happy weekend!!!!!!!

Easter and some insulation

so the part of the house that i was worried would take the longest, actually took the shortest. our whole house was spray foam insulated in one and 1/4 days. wow. that is about 200% faster than anything else that has happened out there thus far.

living room. its actually looking more like the inside of a house!

the kitchen

our bedroom.

and some happy Easter to everyone from sweet little bo and myself. oh and chris, who never willingly takes a picture.
